Tea in the United States covers everything from a traditional Chinese or Japanese tea house to a Southern sweet-tea counter, and the fastest-growing segment is bubble tea: Taiwanese-style milk teas and fruit teas with tapioca pearls, sold by chains and independents alike with adjustable sugar and ice levels. Tea rooms serving afternoon tea with scones and sandwiches usually require a reservation, while boba shops, juice bars and smoothie shops are walk-in and quick. Kava and kombucha bars are a newer category, and loose-leaf tea stores sell blends, teaware and gifts, often with a tasting counter. Prices for a drink run similar to coffee-shop prices, with premium teas and cold-pressed juices at the high end.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–10 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. You can reach Black Sugar Boba at (818) 370-0665; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is blksugarboba.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.6 out of 5 from 75 reviews, which is a strong result for a bubble tea shop in Los Angeles and suggests consistent service.

Los Angeles is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Los Angeles is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Today (Wednesday, July 8, 2026), I had the worst experience at Black Sugar Boba. I arrived around 9:24 PM, and the shop was empty with no customers waiting. I placed an order for 6 drinks, but it took them over 30 minutes to make them. While I was waiting, three other customers came in after me, and they all received their orders before mine. That was very disappointing. I do not recommend this place. The boba shop at Sepulveda Blvd. and National Blvd., only about 10 minutes away, is much better. I order 6 drinks there all the time, and they usually have my order ready in less than 5 minutesβ€”even when the shop is busy and full of customers. Black Sugar Boba was the worst experience I’ve had. Waiting over 30 minutes for just 6 drinks in an empty store is unacceptable. I won’t be coming back.

Black sugar dirty milk tea with a good amount of boba: On the watery side, thank goodness I got coffee with it. The counter guy was clearly on the phone with his buddy, just chatting away full volume on his Bluetooth earbuds about his financial goals. Although he did help me by answering questions, it 100% felt like I was interrupting his personal phone conversation every time and that pmo. Is he not in a customer service job? Cute interior, but I wouldn't want to sit there and listen to a staff member's private affairs. It's not a relaxing environment.

On the scale of Boba, Black Sugar lives in the fresh ingredients and healthier side without being fussy and still feeling like classic boba tea. Both the boba itself and their tea and flavors are high quality and the inclusion of coconut milk as an option makes for some wonderfully rich drinks. I do wish there was an almond milk option for lighter drinks but that’s my only complaint.

Delicious tea with lots of options to choose from, including alternative milks and various toppings! They even have a stamp card you can add to with each purchase. Can't wait to come back and try even more. I got the honey milk tea with brown sugar boba to go.

Speaking of a drink that wakes you back up in the afternoon! This newly opened boba spot in Westwood sure knows what they are doing! The less sweet version is perfectly blended and the texture of their boba is so chewy yet soft at the same time! The black sugar gives it some extra kick! Boba enthusiasts verified!
